An opinion on gun control   Leave a comment

Reblogged from Monster Hunter Nation:

I didn’t want to post about this, because frankly, it is exhausting. I’ve been having this exact same argument for my entire adult life. It is not an exaggeration when I say that I know pretty much exactly every single thing an anti-gun person can say. I’ve heard it over and over, the same old tired stuff, trotted out every single time there is a tragedy on the news that can be milked.

December 22, 2012 There is a national conversation going on, and it's primarily emotional vomiting and bleeding all over the place. Most of the conversation is not the result of critical thinking, of awareness of history, or of the understanding of consequences of choices made. Some years ago Congress foisted one of its many logic-defying travesties upon the populace, which is called the Federal Gun Free School Zones act. When things like this are passed, it makes me wonder if there is anyone in those hallowed halls who actually thinks. They in essence hung a sign out front of every public school that says "Welcome to Your Local Hunting Preserve for Innocent Human Beings". The "hunting preserve" language is embedded in this richly presented, fact- and history-based blog by Larry Correia. Honestly, I was unaware of him until today. I think he needs to visit the White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives, then go on a national education tour. We need to reinvigorate Common Sense before it completely expires. This blog article answers every single argument for "Gun Control" of which I am aware. Whenever you hear politicians say "It's for the children", red warning lights should be going off on your dashboard. Please take the time to read and digest this wonderful article: "An Opinion on Gun Control". This is one of the few persons I have discovered in the conversation who has the robust credentials and knowledge to say things on the subject that are connected with reality. He also has the basic understanding of human nature that so many elected officials seem to completely lack.

The Best of Mark Steyn   3 comments

October 22, 2012

This post is in reference to “The Best of Mark Steyn”, from the Thunder on the Right Blog.

They reprinted, from Front Page Mag, a review of After America: Get Ready for Armageddon by Mark Steyn

I want to read this book. (So many books, so little time.) Steyn is a wonderful writer and speaker, and makes his points sometimes with scathing humor.

The quotes from the book in this review tell me that Mark has articulated what has bubbled about in my mind for sometime about our sad nation. His capacity for analysis and articulation surpasses mine. He has put into understandable words the truly sorry decline of the United States of America.

We are (have been) exceptional, as the only nation founded on an ideal. When the ideal is cast off, the nation recedes. I hope and pray the course can be reversed, but do we have the will to see to it?

Do you believe it’s the right course for America to cast off everything that has made it unique in all history? If so, why? Where is the power in becoming a generic nation?

Spending Cuts. Sorta.   Leave a comment

Up In Smoke

October 1, 2011

Earlier this year, we heard a lot of hoopla about the huge “spending cuts” our Congress and President were proposing. When I looked into it, my gizzard was stirred, and I wanted to write, but life intervenes, doesn’t it?

I have time now.

The State Church of America   Leave a comment

September 28, 2011

There’s no need for me to multiply words here. The leaders and theologians of what’s quite possibly the most effective church in the land speak well enough. Just believe what they themselves say. More eloquence and clarity would be hard to add. We right-wing, round-the-bend rubes don’t need to foam at the mouth. Just take these clergy-types at their own word.

Germaine Quotes for Today’s Climate of Class Warfare (i.e. Washington Policy)   Leave a comment

April 22, 2010

It always befuddles me. People who have risen to the top, and gained much personally in so many ways, want to diminish or destroy the near-genius system of government which enabled them to do so well. Is there no wisdom in the streets? Well, on reflection, yes. There’s a lot of wisdom in the streets. Where it seems to have disappeared is in the hallowed halls of Washington. We have people ensconced who seem to have no regard for history and no understanding of human nature. I find that these quotes, and there are many others out there, speak very clearly to the present day’s insanity. Read the rest of this entry »

Design is Stupid; Random is Smart   Leave a comment

September 27, 2009

I sometimes read newspaper editorials. One by Mr. Leonard Pitts caught my “highly evolved” eye some time back; it’s been on a back burner ever since. In the article Mr. Pitts tried to make a case for allowing only science to speak in the broader culture on matters of our beginnings and how we got here. He stated that attempting to “undermine” the teaching of Darwin’s theory with any idea of intelligent design would be a step in a campaign to turn out “stupid kids”. In other words, kids taught to believe in origins of other than naturalistic evolution are stupid. We gotta keep things neutral; get that religion out of the classroom! Read the rest of this entry »

Ruminations on a President-Elect – Character, Colleagues, and Long-Distance Comrades   Leave a comment

January 11, 2009

You can discern something of the character of a man by seeing if his actions match his words. You can discern something of the character of a man by observing his chosen colleagues. You can discern something of the character of a man by checking the reviews he gets from the stated mortal enemies of these United States.  Some may tell me to “get over it, the election’s done”. I am not stuck in the past. This is actually a look to the future. Past actions have meaning which, unless they have been repented, predict future action. Being a little senator with character problems is one thing; being the leader of these United States with character problems is another. Read the rest of this entry »

Ruminations on a President-Elect – Constitution Schmonstitution   3 comments

November 8, 2008

Mr. Obama faces a dilemma on January 20, year the next. Each incoming president recites the following oath, from Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” This is actually the main job of the President.

On the radio a few years ago our fresh-faced President-elect said that the United States Constitution is a “fundamentally flawed document”. Cogitate on that for a while: fundamentally flawed. Our Constitution, unique in all recorded history and the living out of which has given the citizens of these United States unprecedented and unequaled freedom, quality of life, and vision – that Constitution – is “fundamentally flawed”.

Ruminations on a Presidential Race – Misplaced Worship   Leave a comment

Herod was a mere man. But he must have forgotten that somehow during his sojourn in Palestine. Here he was, minding his own business, persecuting pesky Christ-followers – preserving the peace, so to speak.

He was evidently possessed of a silver tongue. See the slavish, non-thinking response of the people when Herod (unknowingly) gave his final speech. He obviously made them feel real good about him:

Act 12:21 – 23 On an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel, took his seat on the rostrum and {began} delivering an address to them. The people kept crying out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

Talk about immediate feedback.

Ruminations on a Presidential Race – Compassion, Forced   Leave a comment

Written November 2, 2008

I meet my good friend Dave about every Friday morning – have been for years. He told about his trip to a business convention in the Midwest a couple of weeks ago.

In a ride in a limo from the airport to his hotel, he and the driver got to talking. The driver said he was voting for Obama. Dave: “Why would you do that?”

The driver offered a couple of reasons.
